Cold Storage Facilities

Our team at Tiernan & Patrylo, Inc. has management and construction experience with the cold storage facilities specifically with Southland Corporation in San Bernardino, California and PYA / Monarch, Inc. of Greenville, South Carolina.

In addition to managing the construction of the Southland Corporation project, our COO, Larry Aronson also coordinated, with the owner, furnished equipment and systems, including distribution conveyors and storage racks.  The 310,000 sf distribution center included 66,000 sf of refrigerated space, offices, and dry a warehouse area, as well as a vehicle fueling and maintenance area.

PYA / Monarch, Inc. was a restaurant supply distribution company, now owned by U. S. Foods.  The typical concept was approximately a 400,000 sf facility with a Freezer (–10°), Ice Cream Storage (–20°), and Meat Storage (–28°).  Coolers (36-40°) for produce  and dry storage made up about half of the building.  The center portion would be 20,000 – 40,000 sf of office space.  Each building also had a stand alone maintenance fueling facility.

Scott Worley, our Division President was responsible for estimating and project management for the following food distribution facilities:

  • $15 million facility in Charlotte, NC 1996-1997
  • $12 million facility in Montgomery, AL 1997-1998
  • $25 million facility in Port Orange, FL 1998-2000
  • $15 million facility in Raleigh, NC 1999-2000
